Artist Bio

Nia Jackson Atlanta-based portrait artist, born and raised in Jackson, MS, received her

Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from Spelman College. Her time there was a transformational

period; Jackson found her artistic voice recalling her youth of facing racial and cultural

challenges. Her early work investigated the lack of diversity within fairytales and how this

contributes to issues of identity and self-worth among black youth. As a recent MFA graduate of

Savannah College of Art and Design, Jackson’s work celebrates the Black identity

by highlighting the beauty of African-American culture through everyday life narrative portraits.

Jackson has featured her work in many regional shows like Fleurs En Juillet at Buckhead Art & Company (2023) and the Midnight Exhibition at Mint Gallery (2023) and is in many private collections. She has participated in exhibitions at

institutional venues such as Savannah College of Art and Design (2022).

She is in Culture and Arts publications, including VoyageATL magazine (2022) and True-Blue

Magazine (2022), highlighting her journey as an artist and her company Art By Nia J.
